    I’ve been through this all before, you see, like back in May, 2014, when I was returning from Asia via Europe, i.e. Istanbul, specifically so that I could do a side trip to the Iraq border, and make a little incursion into the northern quarter, maybe even go as far as Mosul, if things looked good, and my resources and patience were holding up, something I’d heard you could do, without ever really leaving Turkey, officially, that is, as long as you come back to the same border, and re-enter Turkey, just like nothing ever happened…

    But it seems somebody else had the same idea, a then-little-known organization variously called ISIL, ISIS, IS or Daesh (not Riprock). It seems they were causing a spot of bother there, huffing and puffing and blowing houses down, all in the name of Islam, putting the fun back in fundamentalism, telling people what they want to hear, and then doing what they had always intended to do—invoke Sharia law and rule as an Islamic caliphate… (More …)

    For some reason, that sentiment resonates with me, and many others, I think, that the rewards of this earthly existence are transient and ephemeral, and that there are bigger and better things to do here than getting and spending and counting our money. This is but a brief interlude, by any measure, and it’s a real shame to waste it in mindless murder—or even mindless multiplication. But we’re only human; that’s what we do. We possess. We accumulate. We go forth and multiply… all of which is fine, as long as we don’t get too attached to it, or even worse: ‘fall in love’ with it.

    The events of Paris last week are a good example. Now that the dust has settled and some scores have been settled over the ownership of the land that was settled by our progenitors, it’s not hard to see the vicious circuitry to it all, the battle for one-up-man-ship that pervades all human interactions from the seminal act of sex to the terminal act of death, the jockeying for position and the positioning of jockeys for maximum exposure and maximum penetration. Pounds of flesh have been demanded as retribution and paid in kind over centuries, but nothing has really changed, has it? (More …)

    Russian to Keep Up in Syria: Follow the Money…

    Okay, so here’s a theory that has yet to make the rounds: maybe the Russians are on the at-t-tack in the Mideast to drive up the price of oil. Now we all know:

    1) the price of West Texas crude stands at about $45/barrel, and Brent is not much higher. That’s down from over $100 in less than a year, with no increase on the horizon, UNLESS (cue drum roll), unless the supply situation becomes uncertain…

    2) oil producers are not known for their br*$$ b*lls, and their lackeys on Wall Street even less, so the slightest disruption can have a psychological impact many times the actual damage…

    3) Russia is in a tight spot, given their dependence on oil income and their current expansionist designs, aka ‘male enhancement’…

    Do the math.  Don’t be surprised if Russia hits some ISIL-controlled oil wells and’or refineries, something the West is not known for doing in this conflict, though a few bombs could shut oil production down quickly… SOMETHING THE WEST HAS NOT DONE, I reiterate…

    More questions: Just why are we fighting this war anyway, for oil or money?  Hell of a choice…

    Needed ASAP: Western Equivalent of ISIL, Moral Equivalent of War 

    We scratch our heads and wonder what is the big attraction with ISIL, like why would anybody in their right minds go halfway around the world to join this band of misfits and miscreants in their bid to destroy the world by creating it in their image and likeness, especially when it’s white fighters who aren’t—or weren’t—necessarily even Muslims in the first place?

    The answer is simple, of course: people are looking for something in their lives, something besides SNL and MDMA, which is about the best that the West has to offer: America, at least. Or, as Mel Gibson’s character in ‘Air America’ said: “I was fighting to defend… chicken BBQs and weinee roasts, and Ray Charles songs and drinkin’ Southern Comfort till you passed out behind the bar.”

    There you go. He said it better than I. That’s what we’re trying to cram down the rest of the world’s throat—weenies—lest they mistake unleavened (pita) bread and other Mideast specialties as the food of prophets, with the strict understanding that unless they change their ‘evil ways’, then the wrath of God will be visited upon them, many kilotons of wrath. Unfortunately for some of us, that just is not enough. Weenies are wretched food, a desecration of all that is sacred and holy, and Southern Comfort isn’t much better. (More …)

    Military Madness and the American Police State… 

    Do cops have to undergo background checks before they’re issued guns? Do they get any training? In what?Don’t we kill enough people overseas that people here back at home get to live and breathe and have their being? Isn’t that the deal? We’re no better than ISIS: not much, anyway. Modern American culture is a thinly-concealed death cult, murder by proxy, similar to the ‘guerras floridas’/flowery wars/XĹŤchiyaoyĹŤtl of the Aztecs, in which wars were fought largely as sport, and the taking of prisoners, the better to placate major public gods, of course. When do we get to vote on this issue?

    Advanced Eschatology: R.I.P. 2014 

    Don’t you just love the latest FaceBook silliness in which we proudly proclaim, “It’s been a great year. Thank you for being a part of it!” Really? 2014 was a great year? In what parallel universe did that occur? Or is it just wishful thinking? Or are we just sheep following our leaders off the cliff, the dance leaders, that is; like Rome before the fall, or the last cabaret in Hitler’s Berlin? Now denial—like hero-worship—is nothing new, and FaceBook is not known for high intellect, but this is a new low.

    And that’s saying something for a medium specializing in silly pet tricks and reverse child psychology that goes something like: “I love my mother-in-law. Do you love your mother-in-law? If you do, then please ‘like’, follow, or share this post. I know that most of you won’t, but I want to see how many of you will.” What rubbish.  Did you know that ‘likes’ are now currency? It’s true. What Marvel Comics super-hero are you, anyway? I’m Captain America…

    More importantly, which part of 2014 did you like the best: the Ebola epidemic, maybe? Now there’s a memorable series of moments, death destruction and denial, in which highly-paid pundits and Math 101 extrapolaters (i.e. bloggers) predicted that there would be a cool Mil (1,000,000) number of victims by now. In actuality: “As of 23 December 2014, this outbreak has 19,648 reported cases resulting in 7,645 deaths.” (Wikipedia)

    Ouch. And then there were that not-so-lonely band of lovable losers known variously as ISIS or the Islamic State or The Artists Formerly Known as ISIL, in which bad Fashion Police finally claim turf, proclaiming cleavage illegal at penalty of amputation, and wayward thoughts illegal at penalty of beheading, all of which prompted Noam Chomsky to declare the probable ‘end of history’. Now I’m no huge fan of Chomsky’s politics or his linguistics, but he may have just nailed this one—shut. Give Boko Haram honorable mention in this category. (More …)

      yes, way way too much b.s. going on. r is out of his mind. do not know how to deal w it. he is getting violent and is certain that i am poisioning his food, so he refuses to eat. weighs less than 120lb, still, insists on drinking everything he can get his hands on. yea, happy new year to you also.

    News Flash from the Conspiracy Channel

    Conspiracy TV has announced that it plans, in a rare show of support, to renew the contract for “ISIS: We’re Desert Rats, not Democrats” in its prime-time reality TV slot for two years, instead of the usual one year, according to CEO Rupert Crotchrot. “We’re very excited about the potential of this series,” explains Crotchrot, adding, “good head-loppers are hard to find. We had high hopes for the Mexican cartels, but the back-story just wasn’t there. Heads hanging from a bridge are fine, as long as you know WHY they’re hanging from that particular bridge.”

    ISIS, the shadowy terrorist group that has captured much of the Syrian and Iraqi deserts, emerged from relative obscurity earlier this year to capture the world’s imagination and restore a sense of awe to an otherwise ‘been there, done that’ world. There is wide hope that they will do much to restore otherwise moribund defense spending and jump-start economies still reeling from six years of economic recession. No one will confirm it, but apparently there are plans to expand the action to other locations as quickly as they can be found. But that’s just the rumor. No one’s talking.

    “ISIS: …Desert Rats…” will have its work cut out for it, what with new competition from the new reality TV series “Ebola: Out of the Cave, Part II” now scheduled in the same time slot on a competing channel. I know you’re as excited as I am. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out. On a sadder note, “Border Kids: the Wonder Years” has been canceled, effective immediately. Hey, they had a good run. That’s entertainment. Stay tuned for politics.

    Why do Westerners join radical organizations like Isis, Isil, the Islamic State, the whatchamacallit gang of hashishins currently overrunning the Mideast from their base in Syria, and apparently with recruits from all over, including those paragons of capitalism UK and US, this at a time of unparalleled economic stability and growth in most of the world? Good question. That’s what a lot of Western politicians would like to know. You can’t just buy these guys off.

    The answer, of course, is as obvious as the nose on anyone’s face. Material well-being is largely an empty vessel, all form and no substance. Once you’ve got your forty acres and a mule, then what’s the next thing you’ll want? Why, another mule of course, a younger one, a larger one, a stronger one with more horsepower. Such is the nature of desire, for acquisitions of more and more, bigger and bigger, to what end, who knows? There is no end. Materialism is an end in itself.
