The New Religion: Science (and the speed of light as the threshold to heaven)

LGBTQA’s like to talk about how they often feel ‘trapped in this body’, generally referring to a male in a female body or vice versa, but aren’t we all ‘trapped in this body’? Isn’t it almost an axiom of Christianity that our souls are trying to be free? Isn’t that why we’re all here, looking for something more, something different, something ‘spiritual’ if not holy religious, some philosophical succor on an otherwise average Sunday, which could be used for the counting of our monies were it not for some lingering Judeo-Christian-Islamic notion of a Sabbath to be kept sacred, not scared and not working?

I mean: there’s nothing wrong with this world of five or so senses, nothing except for the fears, hatred, frustrations and cruelty, that is, but full of undeniable beauty, also, e.g. nature in all its splendor and grandeur. But still: isn’t there something more, just behind our reach, right behind the projection screen, almost touchable almost ‘feel-able’ if not quite audible visible or smell-able—okay, so maybe smell-able…

I think there is, and I think it’s accessible, through intuition, if not direct sense perception. And I don’t think it’s ‘supernatural’, a concept I really don’t believe in. I mean: dogs can hear sounds we can’t hear, but it’s nothing supernatural. Our ears just aren’t equipped to receive and process those ultra-high and infra-low frequencies that other animals are equipped for. I think those limits define dimensions for us in the literal LxWxH sense, and also in the metaphorical sense of inadvertently defining the nature of our existence in the process. Dogs live a very high-pitched life, don’t ya’ reckon?

Dimensions are measurable in other ways besides normal length, width, and height, of course, which might only be one dimension, really—Space—the perfect companion to the usual Fourth Dimension—Time—which might really be three dimensions itself: past, present, and future. Time is more than the measure of motion, and so is speed, the common-sense measure. One ‘speed limit’, so to speak, definitely has all the characteristics of defining a dimension, a higher dimension, and our dimension, too, the dimension of physical existence—the speed of light.

If that is the upper limit of physical existence, then of what is it the ‘lower’ limit? My best guess is that it largely defines a spiritual plane ‘above’ us, within us, all around us. We just can’t see it, because we don’t operate at light speed. We can only see light at that speed, and the manifestations of electricity or magnetism—same thing. Any organism or being that might exist in that dimension would see much more, of course, but we can’t see them; or can we? Many people claim to have seen ghosts, and countless others ‘believe’ in them, but we’re not concerned with belief at the moment.

My favorite prophets and thinkers of all time include the Buddha, Muhammad, Jesus, and… and Plato, whose work was borrowed into much Christian doctrine, and one more—Einstein. Now Einstein is not normally thought of as a thinker or a philosopher, much less a religious prophet, but I think he probably qualifies as one. I think he was much more than the clever scientist or mathematician working his ‘day job’.

Einstein himself acknowledged that he might have fluffed an equation here and there, but: his ‘thought experiments’ were sublime, just like Jesus’s parables, and his discovery of the speed of light as a constant is a fundamental law of nature. His Special Relativity can be experimentally proven in many different ways, but it came to him first as a realization. He himself always said that imagination was more important than knowledge, BUT…

The one quibble I have with Einstein is part of the same ‘Theory of Special Relativity’ that also establishes the Speed of Light as a constant, and that’s the little-questioned theory that the laws of physics are the same for any (non-accelerating) observer in the Universe—simple; or is it? I don’t think it’s ever been questioned, but what if it weren’t true? For purposes of argument and discussion and study, it almost has to be, but what if it’s not? I got a hunch that our little neck of the woods is a slow-down low-down bluesy little juke-joint of a galaxy operating at less than normal light speed…

That might explain a few things, like the constantly accelerating expansion of the ‘visible’ universe. I can’t prove it, of course, and I don’t know that any ‘real scientist’ could, either. Once you allow a ‘many worlds simultaneously’ clause into discussion, then you’re almost outside the realm of what can be accomplished by experimental science. You would almost have to be outside the system to look at it objectively and systematically, which is not really possible, unless you’re in another dimension. Now you’re back in religion and philosophy. Hi. I f*cking love Science (ssshhh!)…
