I realize now my major fault in this world: I want everything to work out, and refuse to believe that it won’t, or it can’t, woulda coulda shoulda if I had my way, equals a world without evil and a heaven without conditions, without terms or even definitions, depends on expectations, hard to believe that there’s someone I can’t get along with or a gadget without a price tag, a movie without laugh lines or TV without sight gags…

it will take a miracle, though, at full price with no coupons, for this half-baked society of half-breeds and half-asses with a half-life of a generation and halftime at dark-something: thirty to pull out of its malaise with dignity intact as a matter-of-fact and as a matter of dead men walking, that’s us, without prayers or preconditions, stumbling blindly through the darkness of ignorance and fear without so much as a clue as to what the future beckons…

the Great Migrations have already begun, and the Great Despair that will follow, the Long Dark Nod that will give us time to re-boot and the next Renaissance that will give us pause to reflect and ask forgiveness of those who came and went with no recourse but to submit, to the will of the armies of night and the soldiers by day who just did the bidding of their superiors, until forced to bond with their captors…

horses must run their courses as surely as the bets that must be laid, some selling short and others leaning long, bulls and bears taking odds on survival while urban snarks cavort with sharks to see who can make a buck from it, charmers and snakes press their luck with it, so craftsmen and housewives and lovers of the land scratch their heads in disbelief at the mess that the madmen have made of it…

ages of darkness have come and gone with no loss to the huddled masses the salt of the earth and the tillers of the field who go about the business of surviving if not thriving making ends meet and making hearts beat making plants grow mixing genes and planting beans inventing wheels and stirrups and home-style conveniences, yes the meek almost always inherit the earth, just be patient, and avoid contrivances, Amen…
