Awesomenessificationizing in a World w/o Him

Awesome”: the word defines our lazy consumer/consumed age, selfies self-centered, Christmas especially, speaking volumes while explaining nothing, an idle exclamation and simultaneous proclamation of all things hubristic, ourselves extrapolated outward for viewing and public worship—self-worship—the worst kind, “awesome” not to be confused with “awful” its evil twin, same word really, merely inflected with opposing sentiment, neither of them even in the same emotional league as that original feeling of awe that inspired it, and which inspires millions, that feeling of smallness in witnessing grandiosity…

So how did the same word, and same original feel, come to mean two such opposite things? That’s what it is to be human, dahling, language—and thoughts—mutating at the speed of sound in direct proportion to the distance from the source, so much like biological Evolution that it’s hard to see them as anything other or different, as often declared by scientific minds specializing in such fields with (pedi)grees much higher than my own…

We humans are a rather imperfect lot, at best blessed, at worst cursed, in reality most likely somewhere in between, the recipe for fulfillment in direct proportion to intent, a sliding scale of satisfaction, hard to accomplish anything without really intending it, or retrofitting the logic, intent being the key, left in this slow cool world to fend for ourselves or die trying…

that is, at least until a few enlightened individuals came along and suggested (and I’m paraphrasing) ‘what if we joined together instead of fighting amongst ourselves, regardless of family affiliation, with our guide a view to what is Divine’, read: Father, Mother, Son, Maker, Creator, truth, beauty, goodness, you name it just don’t blame it… only problem is when the boundaries of Sunday school are too narrow, and competing—if similar—ideologies are all vying for the same space, a throwback to animal tribalism, racism, only solution to expand to new space or unite all religions; you do the math…

It seems irrelevant in this case whether physical reality is built up of particles or trickles down from consciousness, still here we are, naked and afraid, pure consciousness derivative of self consciousness, the existential conundrum of being, we subjects looking for predicates, and objects, to be sure, but mostly looking to conjugate, get conjugal with random verbal innuendos, imperfect clauses and conditional tenses…

And those of us are the lucky ones, the sensitive and sometimes spiritual. The saddest stories of this world imagine themselves masters of it in their wildest imaginations, getting and spending and indulging in fantasy war games and cowboy monster trucks, making and breaking others with a wave of the wand and a line in the sand, humans lording it over other humans as if there were some valid claim to royalty other than historical oneupsmanship and hereditary indebtedness…

Even animals do it, the Big Guy hamming the harem, while the others get hand sandwiches, sloppy seconds and leftovers, sloppy Joes warmed over in the microwave with purpose-built buns. The human difference is our ability to move beyond instinct, beyond the confines of raw power, beyond the lust for consumption and competition that seems to drive our modern Godless age, whether born as Buddhist Christian Muslim Jew or Hindu. Humans are unique in their self-destructiveness and in their ability to overcome it. So we should do just that, in our religion-bound wisdom, love, and surrender. Now that would be awesome; just a thought…
